Itโs been 8 months since I joined my MBA program. The term sounds fancy, but honestly speaking, the Indian education system leans more toward theoretical knowledge rather than practical tasks and real-life problem-solving. Now, while reading this, your next question will surely be, “๐๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐ต ๐ถ๐ ๐๐ผ ๐ฑ๐ผ ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ ๐๐?“
Thatโs one of the most trending questions on the Internet, and Iโm not claiming thisโGoogle does! But whether itโs worth it or not depends entirely on you. What an MBA actually offers is what Iโm going to talk about.
Firstly, you get a highly diverse peer group, which not only helps you grow but also pushes your limits to excel. Second, you face new challenges and deadlines every dayโjuggling assignments, projects, case studies, mid-term exams, committee and council work. The list is endless, and it keeps growing. Third, it teaches you time management, people management, and negotiationโnegotiation for events, deadlines, and opportunities. Fourth, it builds excellent oratory skills because every day, you have to present something or the other in front of 60+ people.
Now, if you think subjects, lectures, and textbooks will teach you all these things, then my friend, you are wrong! There are new subjects every three months, with new textbooks and lectures that might feel boring at times. From my experience, I believe in being part of as many activities and committees as possible. Grab opportunities when they come your way and utilize them fully. Participate in case competitionsโIโve been part of multiple ones. Some I qualified for the finals, some I won.
Again, Rome wasnโt built in a day, and neither are your case competition skills. It takes time to understand the pattern and flow of how these competitions work, but once you start winning, it becomes addictive! More importantly, you get to solve real-life problems and implement what you learn in lectures.
Take your class projects and assignments seriouslyโgive your best effort, even if it’s just for 5 marks. Trust me, it helps build your portfolio and strengthens your CV. And last but not least, be open to learning, take the lead, and also be a good listener.
FYI, Iโm neither a career counselor nor an educational influencer. Iโm just another student, explorer, and learner like you, sharing my experiences and insights that might help you understand the MBA landscape better.
At the end of the day, an MBA is not just about textbooks and examsโitโs about how much you are willing to explore, experiment, and evolve. So, the real question is: ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ ๐๐ผ ๐บ๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐บ๐ผ๐๐ ๐ผ๐๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ถ๐?
